Cairngorms Nature BIG Weekend

Cairngorms Nature BIG Weekend

The Cairngorms is blessed with an abundance of outstanding natural beauty. Each year, in May, the Cairngorms Nature BIG Weekend is an opportunity for visitors and locals alike to celebrate the natural heritage of the National Park.

What Happens

Each year there are new and exciting events that celebrate nature. In previous years there have been tree planting events, and community litter picks. All aimed at improving the biodiversity and the safety of the national park. There have been rural skills days and displays of artwork created by local school children.

Each year there has been a growing number of events. Last year there were more than 100! All of the events are aimed at both adults and children, which makes them an excellent choice for families. With the environment and nature being at the forefront of everyone's minds, it's wonderful to have an opportunity to celebrate the natural world.

Getting involved with keeping nature at its best is a wonderful experience that stays with you. This also makes the world a better place for not only our children but also the wildlife that lives in it.

The BIG Weekend 2020

The 2020 big weekend will be taking place between the 15th and 17th of May. There are plans for this year to be the biggest event yet. Across the national park, there will be behind the scenes wild adventures that will get you up close and personal with nature as well as musical performances inspired by the beauty of the national park.

In preparation for the big weekend, there will be lots of exciting, green-focused events happening all year. All of these events are aimed at bringing the community and the natural world into harmony. This means that even if you can't make it to the big weekend, you can still get involved, and reap the rewards.

Our Guest House in Newtonmore is perfectly positioned as the southern gateway to the Cairngorms National Park. This means it is set up as your perfect base if you want to visit the Big Weekend or fancy exploring the beautiful national park at any other time.
